Parihaka

Hello readers for the last couple of days we have started a new book called Remember that November and it is about the British people trying to take there land and then they got it but first the British people were trying to sell the land for an amount that the Parihaka people didn't like and then the British people wanted to fight for it the Parihaka people didn't want to fight back so the stood there and the kids started singing. They were going to the prison because their ancestors had died in there or had died when the British started shooting they went there for remembrance and they also got to see what there ancestors had to cope with.

What is Passive Resistance?

Passive Resistance is trying to achieve something, by doing the right thing. People from Parihaka showed Passive Resistance by singing and not shooting back at the British.

What did the Europeans expect to find at Parihaka? The Europeans expected the Parihaka people to fight back for there land because the other people weren't offering enough money so they said no and they were waiting for a fierce battle but they got a greeting for the kids from Parihaka.

What did they find instead? They found out that the Parihaka people weren't going to fight back instead they just sat down and some stood up but the people from the Europeans wanted to fight and then some people got sent to prison.

Research Martin Luther King and Gandhi- What were they protesting and how? Martin Luther King was protesting about civil rights of activism. And Gandhi was protesting about nonviolent social change and he was agreeing not to physically attack your enemy.
