Wind speed - Making an anemometer.

Anemometer

MATERIALS

  1. Cups
  2. Pin
  3. Pencil
  4. Tape
  5. Straws

STEPS

  1.
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5.

Once you have made an anemometer we are going to record the wind speed.

Group size: 5

You will need:

Anemometer (above)

Roles:

  • Timekeeper
  • Counter
  • Recorder
  • Anemometer Manager
  • Wind generator
  1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
  2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
  3. If possible, repeat the above step four (4) times and record the average number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

  • Record how many times it spins using the table below.
You will need to create the wind yourself by blowing. Get 4 different wind speeds by blowing.

You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

Time IntervalNumber of Spins
1.
2.
3.
4.
  • Can you make a statement connecting the number of spins of your anemometer and the speed of the wind?

Recycling

Hurumanu - Recycling

Aim: To learn practical ways of recycling so that we can make our world a better place.

Video questions:

What has human activity done to our planet?
It has created global activity

What is Zero Waste?
Definition:
One of the quickest and cheapest ways a community can immediately reduce climate impact.

What stuff has a carbon footprint? Cars, phone, Tooth brush, bags, breakfeast

What are 4 easy things to help our planet?
  1.   Reduce
  2.   Reuse
  3.  Repair
  4.  Redesign
What do we need to recycle?
fixing broken things, sharing products
  1. Repairing broken stuff
  2. sharing products
  3. Reduce co2 emissions
  4. 50%

What does recycling do to our planet?
releases co2 emissions

How much of our rubbish is made up of food scraps?
50%
What does methane gas do to our planet?
It traps a lot of sunlight then co2 over the short term

What does soil do to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?
cause carbon dioxide down from the atmosphere
What do using zero waste practices do to our planet?
To lower co2 emissions and putting stuff in the right bins

What is a carbon footprint?

    What is your Carbon Footprint?

You are now going to look at your own carbon footprint by taking a questionirre. Remember to 'Add details to improve accurcay'.

Based on the questionaire what is your:

    1. Ecological Footprint
    2. Carbon Footprint

How many planets did you have?

What is your personal Earth overshoot day?

    Manakitanga

Today we were doing art and we were doing manakitanga and this is mine we were doing stop motion about clay

    Manakitanga

It is the end of the day and TJ, Josh ,Ashton and Jesse were going to the gym and it was a sunny day. We got changed into our PE gear and then we went to go play soccer on the field Ashton had the ball and he is not passing the ball to anyone he was acting like he was the best player and then Ashton lets the other team get a goal and then he blames it on TJ ,Josh and Jesse and then TJ got the ball back and then he passes it to Josh and then Josh passed the ball to Jesse and then we scored a goal.

Ashton started with the ball and went up and tried to score but the person in the goal blocked it and kicks it to one of his teammates and TJ runs after him and gets the ball and the other team got another goal and Ashton walked up to TJ and he said fight me.

And then he got mad and kicks the ball really far and then TJ ran over to the ball to get it and then Ashton comes back and he starts to pass the ball. Everyone then we got a goal and then we got more points than the other team and then we won the game and then we had another game and we won that one and we were on top of the leaderboard and then we vs the second best team and we bet them we were almost undefeated. Until we got told that we are going to vs people from the championship game.

    Fantastic Mr Fox

Today we were reading Fantastic Mr Fox and we were reading up to chapter one there were three farmers and the names were Farmer Boggis, farmer bunce and also Farmer Bean. Farmer Boggis was enormously fat and all he ate was three boiled chickens and dumplings for breakfast lunch and supper and then Farmer Bunce ate donuts mixed into a paste and then Farmer Bean did not eat he only drank.

What are we doing this term for Reading?  This term we are reading a novel study called Fantastic Mr Fox

By only looking at the cover, what can we infer or guess about the story? By looking at the cover of the book we can probably tell that its about a Fox

After reading the back cover, what do you think the story is about? Make a prediction on what will happen. I thought it was going to be about sloth.

Using your prior knowledge, why do you think I have selected this book for us to read?  I think the teacher chose this book because it is our first novel study.

    2. Bag two had a small amount of water
    3. The acidity had a large amount of water

    1. Bag three cycled
    2. Bag three had a small amount of water
    3. Bag three had no acidity

Conclusion: Bag one had a successful cycle it only had water in it. Bag two also had cycled but it had a small amount of water. And then bag three cycled but it had no acidity.

    Hurumanu Art

Hello my name is Jesse today we were doing Hurumanu Art for art we were doing stop motions and we had to make it by using clay. Cody made all of the people while I done the car Camryn and Cody made a car to we mixed some colors together and then we traded some for other colors we needed black the most because we had all ready used all of our black we made purple for one of the other and then they gave us black back and then we could finish all of the cars. Then we made brown we had to mix a couple of colors together and then we made trees with green and brown we had to make the colors warm and then it was really easy to squish. Cody and me finished all of the cars and all of the trees and also the people that are going to be in the story they have names but I forgot them but the very first thing we had to do was create a story board mine was about two cars crashing into each other and then the ranger came to save them and get the out of the car and then the police came to check who done the crash.

Hello my name is Jesse yesterday we were creating coloring competitions everyone that was in Sh and Bh all made cards they went to schools like Hornby Primary School and St Bernadette's. Not everyone finished all of the card but everybody made at least one for the younger kids at the other schools. Then we made some for Paper plus The Warehouse and Warehouse stationary some of the people form our school took the cards down to all of the places and they asked if they could donate. After morning tea I went to gym sports and we played dodge ball and tricky line tag I came first in tricky line tag and then my team lost in dodge ball after that I done rugby academy we were playing game were you had to kick the ball over the line to get a try. After we played a game of touch but the rules were different and once you got touched to would have to role onto your back and then pass to one o you teammates it was hard but we scored at least one try.
