Kuri


This week we are reading a story called Kurī. Answer the following questions. Make sure you are using full sentences.
1) When did early Polynesians begin to sail across the Pacific Ocean to find new lands?

They around 2000 Years ago.

2) How do people know that dogs were in Hawaii, the Cook Islands and New Zealand?

They found dog bones in very old places.

3) What is a Kurī?

A Kuri is a dog that was alive that lived 2000 years ago.

4) What are some reasons dogs were good to have? List at least 4.

They were good hunters
They can help and catch birds fish
They could be eaten if there owner was hungry
To help them stay alive stay alive if they got attacked

5) Label the countries: Use the map in the book to help you!

6) Who’s dog was left behind?

Tāneatua dog was left behind

7) What does the story say happened to this kuri?
That his dog went to go catch something and he caught a fish

8) Why is Whakataka called Whakataka?

Because one of the dogs died so he threw its body of the mountain

9) How do we know what Kurī looked like?

only the Polynesians know what kuri's look like 

10) Explain what Kurī looked like.

It had bad teeth and it had a fluffy tail
